This webinar describes how MyPyramid recommendations for a healthful diet are consistent with the most recent diet-related recommendations from authoritative organizations to prevent/control chronic diseases or disorders such as CVD, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cancer, and osteoporosis.

Susan M. Krebs-Smith, Ph.D.

Dr. Krebs-Smith is the Chief of the Risk Factor Monitoring and Methods Branch of the Applied Research Program at the National Cancer Institute at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. In that capacity, she oversees a program of research on the surveillance of risk factors related to cancer, methodological issues to improve the assessment of those factors, and issues related to guidance and food policy.

Penny Kris-Etherton, Ph.D., R.D.

Dr. Kris-Etherton is currently the Distinguished Professor of Nutrition at Pennsylvania State University and is also a Full Professor. The emphasis of Dr. Kris-Etherton's research program is on exploring how nutrients and other bioactive constituents affect established and emerging risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Dr. Kris-Etherton also has actively explored the health effects of fatty acids with emphasis on stearic acid, monounsaturated fatty acids, and omega-3 fatty acids.
