Who isn't worried about saving money on daily expenses in today's tough economic climate? The good news is that using the tools on this site to help you design and achieve a personal plan for a balanced life can also help you keep your budget in balance.
Adopting these strategies for a more balanced life can also help you stretch your budget.

Perhaps you've heard the old story about the two friends who went backwoods camping in bear country. Their plan was to do some fishing in the pristine lakes and enjoy the scenery and fresh air. All went well until they were strolling across an alpine meadow and encountered a mother bear and her cubs. The mother bear went on instant alert and moved toward the two humans. One immediately began to run for the nearest tree. "You'll never outrun a bear," his pal shouted. "I don't have to," he called back. "I just have to outrun you."
I've often shared that story with patients who are trying to outrun the bear (read that as doing too many things at once) as they strive to meet health goals and also achieve a greater sense of balance in their lives. The good news is that we don't have to outrun any bears to make choices that lead to big differences in our well-being. Instead, taking one step at a time is the surest way to make long-lasting changes.
If you are like me, you probably have a fairly sizeable to-do list, both for yourself personally, in the family and at work. The temptation is to try to take on too much of that list at once. Instead, I've found, for myself and for hundreds of patients, that the most successful approach is to prioritize and try to do only one or two things at a time. Then build on that foundation. Going at a steady walk or jog is much easier than trying to outrun any bears!

Our nation's larger economic woes have come home to lots of individuals and families. Many are trying to cope with job loss or the threat of job loss or cutback in hours, with the decrease in home value, and other major problems. Any or all of these worries can make you feel squeezed by stress just as if you were caught in a huge vise. As you are working to solve your family's financial issues, adopting several strategies may help.
As you can see, these strategies won't solve your financial worries but they may help you find the strength and support you need to succeed.
