Top 5 Ways to Leave Winter Weight Behind

1. Park farther away. As warm weather returns, carve out some time in your daily routine to walk more. One way to get more exercise is to park a few streets away and stretch your legs. If you're one of the lucky few who live within 5 miles of work, ditch your ride altogether and huff it or ride your bike. The fresh air will do you good and it's a great way to start or end your day.
2. Run every time it rains. Workout schedules can be grueling reminders of the dread ahead. Synchronize your workouts with the weather. Running in the rain may sound miserable, but just try it once—it's invigorating. Or jump on a treadmill and watch the weather come pouring down the window.
3. Plant a garden. At the first hint of better weather, get outside and start poking around the yard. Bending over and squatting is a great way to exercise muscles that'll make your legs and hips look great. You'll feel it the next day, too!
4. Take tennis lessons. Before every day is perfect and you want to be out having fun, take a few group beginner/refresher lessons so you're ready for action. Tennis is a casual way to burn off a few hundred calories and catch up with friends.
5. Work out at work. Take the stairs, no matter how far up your office is from the lobby. Clench your butt and leg muscles while sitting at your desk. Use the last hour of work to stretch before you go to your gym or on a run after work.
As always, be sure to consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.
