Kiss that boring winter workout good-bye, and add a little flavor to your spring routine with these fresh exercise ideas.
1. Lace up your dancin' shoes. Whether you're shaking your bon-bon at an aerobics class, burning up the dance floor with your sweetie, or just tiptoeing through the tulips, dancing is a fun way to let loose and burn some calories. Want to stay at home? Simply turn on some tunes and get your hips moving. Otherwise, check out a class for some new ideas. From belly dancing to ballroom and Zumba® to step aerobics, you're sure to find an innovative new way to tone up.
2. Strike a pose. Sure, you've heard about yoga and Pilates, but have you tried them yet? These exercises from the East are a great way to build strength and ease tension. Not sure where to start? Check out this simple advice for the basics.
3. Get defensive. Stressed? Who isn't? Take out your aggression and build muscle, endurance, and coordination with mixed martial arts, kickboxing, or a self-defense class. Learn to grapple or simply punch the air for a workout that'll have you burning calories and tension.
4. Rock the boat. As the weather warms up, it's a great time to get outside. Try something new when you work out on the water. Rent a canoe and whip your arms and abs into shape with an afternoon of rowing. It's a fun activity for the entire family. If you're landlocked, pop into a local gym and hop on the rowing machine. The scenery isn't quite as nice as if you were on the water, but it's a good way to work muscles you don't usually use.
5. Climb every mountain. If April showers are keeping you inside, skip the gym and head to a climbing wall. For a small fee, an instructor will show you the ropes, and have you scaling walls in no time. Not only will you engage just about every muscle in your body, but you'll also feel more confident to tackle the mountains in your
everyday life.
