Top Tips: Making the Most of Your Outdoor Activities

1. Add in some fun. Summer is the season for playing. So why not add some sport into your workout? If you find an adult sports league too intimidating, simply bring the games to yourself. Put up a volleyball net in your backyard, grab a baseball and a glove, or bring out the ol' bocce set at your next get-together. Sometimes, a little friendly competition is all you need to get out and get moving.
2. Enjoy the fresh air. Summer is the best time of year to use the weather to your advantage. Get outside for a swim, a hike, a bike ride, a tennis match—or even get out in your garden for an afternoon of weeding. Your body will respond even better to a workout it's not used to doing.
3. Make it an event. As the weather heats up, so does community involvement. Check out local happenings for races, walks, dances, bike rides, or other events where you can break a sweat alongside your neighbors and friends. More often than not, these events are associated with a charitable cause, so you can really feel good about your workout.
