The weather may cool down, but your exercise routine doesn't have to. Here are some innovative ways to stay active this fall.
1. Be one with nature. Enjoy the year's most beautiful season and get outside! In most parts of the country, fall is a sacred season with comfortable days, crisp nights, and beautiful colors. Bicycling, jogging, walking, and golf are all in prime season. While you're out walking, you can
plot your walk with our virtual pedometer to track your current route or scout out a new one. Whatever you do, get some fresh air and enjoy the seasonal scenery—it's good for the body
and the soul.
2. Tackle a road race. 'Tis the season to be racing. Fall is one of the best times of year to take on a road race. The cooler temperatures are a runner's dream. Even if you're not an avid runner, you can work up to a 5K or 10K race for Thanksgiving, and now is the time to get started. Scope out a good training plan—there's something out there for every ability—and work toward a goal. Nothing feels better than that sense of accomplishment as you cross the finish line. Not motivated? Go cheer on a local run and garner a little inspiration for yourself.
3. Choose your own adventure. Fall is a great time to get out and explore your surroundings. Delve into a local park, try a new bike trail, or take a walk around the lake. Sometimes the greatest escapes are right outside your back door.
4. Take a class. If you've been outside all summer, getting back into the gym may take some getting used to. So, sign up for a class to get back into an indoor fitness routine. Yoga, step aerobics, spinning, kickboxing, and pilates are all wonderful workouts you can find at just about any gym. The added bonus of a class? Your classmates will help hold you accountable (and provide that all-important social outlet).
