Get Moving When You Get Together

As the weather heats up, it's time to get moving outside, but you don't have to slog out miles on the road to burn calories. You can work out and be social at the same time. So get active, and get by with a little help from your friends this season.
Volleyball
Volleyball is one of those forgiving sports that doesn't discriminate based on age or sex—just about anyone can hold their own against anyone else. And it's easy to put up a net in your yard to get a game started. If you're working with a less-than-athletic set, use a beach ball instead of a traditional volleyball to reduce the skill level required. If you're lucky enough to have a pool, starting up a game in the water is a surefire way to get party wallflowers involved in the activities.
Yard Games
Bocce ball, croquet, cornhole, bean bag games, ladder golf, or horseshoes. Whatever your yard game of choice, these laid-back activities are a great way to kick back with friends, and burn a few calories in the meantime. So, liven up the competitive atmosphere at your next get-together and get everyone involved.
Wiffle® Ball
This American pastime gets you moving while you sprint to the bases, and still allows for social hour while you're picking daisies in the outfield. Plus, all you need is a Wiffle ball, a bat, and some makeshift bases to get things started. The secret to a successful backyard baseball game is having someone on hand who can throw "hittable" pitches. So, make sure your most accurate throwers are the ones on the mound (and set them up relatively close to the batter for added ease of pitching).
Potato Sack Race
Traditionally, potato sack races are meant for kids, but why not have some good, silly fun as an adult? Jumping provides a great total-body workout, and laughing engages your abs and lightens your spirit. So dig up some old pillowcases and get going!
